Camp Gabriels is a former New York State correctional facility situated on over 90.71 acres in the high peaks region of the Adirondack Park. Camp Gabriels was founded in 1897 as a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients. The property was owned briefly by Paul Smiths College, and was purchased by the state in 1982 and converted to a correctional facility, which as subsequently decommissioned in 2009. The property comes with 55 total structures (some of which are insignificant sheds & pavilions, etc.), including dormitories, offices, storage and maintenance sheds, a dining hall, a heating plant, a chapel, and a gymnasium. The total square footage of all the structures is 167,578.
Camp Gabriels is located in the Town of Brighton, Franklin County, just a short drive to the Adirondack resort villages of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The Adirondack Park offers numerous year-round recreational activities, including hiking, camping, skiing, boating, hunting, fishing, and much more. Camp Gabriels is easily accessible by car and air.
